Modest Altschuler

Created in Russia, in 1873, Altschuler studied cello in the Warsaw Conservatory, later on moving to Moscow, where he studied structure with Arensky and Taneyev. After graduating, in 1890, through the Moscow Conservatory, Altschuler embarked on the career like a cellist. He ultimately moved to america. In 1903, in NY, he founded the Russian Symphony Orchestra. Atschuler’s orchestra quickly became a significant organization for the dissemination of Russian tradition in America. For instance, Altschuler’s carried out the globe premiere of Scriabin’s Le Poème de l’extase in 1908. Furthermore, he offered American premieres of additional essential Russian composers, including Rachmaninov, Liadov, and Ippolitov-Ivanov. Alstchuler passed away in 1963.
