CCM singer/songwriter Mitch McVicker studied music education at Close friends College or university in Wichita, KS; there he befriended fellow college student Rich Mullins, currently an acclaimed performer inside the Christian community. When Mullins relocated to New Mexico after graduation, he confident McVicker to visit with him, and collectively they had written The Canticle from the Plains, a musical where McVicker starred (and later on made his documented debut for the associated soundtrack recording). He started focus on his debut recording in 1997, with Mullins set up as co-producer; soon after completing the record, both music artists were scheduled to execute live at a Wichita advantage, but they under no circumstances came — on Sept 19, Mullins was wiped out in transit within an car crash which also remaining McVicker comatose. He ultimately recovered, carrying on Mullins’ ministry Compassion International aswell as his personal burgeoning solo profession — his self-titled debut finally made an appearance in 1998. Chasing the Horizon adopted three years later on.
