miRthkon

Oakland, California-based avant rockers miRthkon prove that organic, thoroughly scored music could be played with plenty of power and punch to knock straight down a wall structure or two, even though also confounding your cranium with conceptual craziness. The music group may be the brainchild of Wally Scharold, a guitarist and composer whose music beneath the miRthkon moniker 1st made an appearance on self-released recordings while Scharold was learning composition in the Oberlin Conservatory in Ohio. After shifting to Oakland, he graduated from Mills University having a master’s level in music structure; while at Mills Scharold fulfilled other music artists and formed an organization that performed his new materials aswell as previously music he previously penned back the Buckeye Condition. The group miRthkon ultimately settled on the sextet lineup of two guitars, two woodwinds, bass, and drums, and since everything they play is totally scored — apparently actually the drums — they explain themselves (on the website) as “an amplified chamber ensemble masquerading like a rock-band.” This process reflects among miRthkon’s key affects — Frank Zappa — and reaches the band’s satirical lyrics and voice-overs, aswell as the occasionally loony multimedia areas of their conceptual shows and recordings. In 2006 miRthkon self-released an EP entitled The Illusion of Pleasure, offering Scharold along with second guitarist and composer Rob Pumpelly, saxophonists Carolyn Walter and Dave Reminick (a short-term bandmember soon changed by Aram Shelton), bassist Nathaniel Hawkes, and drummer Dickie Ogden. The group underwent some staff adjustments — with saxophonist Jamison Smeltz changing Shelton and Matt Guggemos overtaking the drum seat from your departing Ogden — ahead of signing using the Italian AltrOck label (with music group and label maybe drawn together with a fondness for eccentric capitalization furthermore to musical compatibility), which released miRthkon’s debut full-length, the thrash metallic, prog rock and roll, funk, avant jazz, and modern classical-informed Vehicle, in ’09 2009. In the meantime, on-again, off-again bassist Matt Lebofsky became a member of the music group full-time as an alternative for Hawkes, and in 2011 guitarist Travis Andrews changed Pumpelly. Regardless of the lineup adjustments, miRthkon’s instrumental settings nevertheless continued to be intact. In 2012 AltrOck released (Structure), a Dvd and blu-ray documenting their live media show offering music overall performance with synchronized video; the DVD was co-directed by Scharold and videographer/conceptual developer Jarred McAdams, a completely acknowledged seventh bandmember since miRthkon’s first days like a California-based group. The next year saw the discharge of Treat(s), miRthkon’s sophomore AltrOck recording. Snack(s) found its way to Sept 2013 concurrent with miRthkon’s Kickstarter-supported Western tour, including an appearance in the Rock and roll in Opposition event in Carmaux, France.
