A skillful golf swing pianist who thought we would spend a lot of his profession in the studios, Milt Raskin was a solid asset to many swing period big rings. He began on saxophone, turned to piano when he was 11 and researched at the brand new Britain Conservatory in the first 1930’s. After having some regional radio careers, Raskin shifted to NY, played a little with Wingy Manone in 1937 and joined up with Gene Krupa’s brand-new big music group (1938-39). He previously stints with Teddy Powell, Alvino Rey, Krupa once again & most prominently with Tommy Dorsey (1942-44). After concluding with TD, Raskin transferred to LA and became a active studio room musician and musical movie director. Although he occasionally documented in jazz configurations in the 1940’s and 50’s (including with Artie Shaw, Billie Vacation, Wingy Manone and Georgie Auld), Milt Raskin was generally lost towards the profitable but anonymous globe from the studios; he hardly ever led a jazz saving program of his very own.
