Mikey Smith

Strong politics convictions not merely provided the spice for Mikey Smith’s dub poetry, but led to his getting stoned to death throughout a politics struggle in Jamaica’s Stony Hill district. The occurrence motivated a poem, Rock, by Kamau Brathwaite. Smith, who once described his method of poetry by declaring, “Me is a guy who’ve built-in rhythms in my own mind and me can hear dem,” was a style of contradictions. Although he stated to despise the poetry of Wordsworth and Shakespeare, he filmed a video of his interpretation of the William Blake poem.
