After studying music at North Tx State School, Chicago-born Mike Smith joined Maynard Ferguson’s band as baritone saxophonist in 1980. With the ’80s, he performed baritone, alto, and soprano saxophones with several rings, including those of Pal Full, Clark Terry, Nat Adderley, and Artwork Farmer, and in addition performed within the orchestra that toured world-wide with Frank Sinatra beginning in 1987. Audibly within the mildew of Cannonball Adderley, Smith shades his jazz and pop criteria repertoire with post-bop hues, while his composing shows a lot more imaginative flair.
