Mike James Kirkland

Originally from Yazoo City, Mississippi, Mike James Kirkland was raised singing doo wop and gospel. Ultimately settling in California, Kirkland and his sibling started an archive label, Bryan Information, release a the love tunes and socially mindful spirit music that Kirkland have been writing. Both albums they released — HOLD ON within in 1972 and its own follow-up, Doin’ It Best, both echoed the design and sentiments of additional artists decided to touch upon social issues highly relevant to the African-American community: spirit heavies like Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield, and Stevie Question. The trustworthiness of both albums gradually spread on the ensuing years, finally leading to reissues within the ’90s by archival label Luv N Haight, like the 2011 two-disc established Don’t Sell Your Spirit, which mixed both of Kirkland’s MCA albums with uncommon early paths from his initial music group, Mike & the Censations, composed of some sort of collected works.
