Mike Catalano

Pianist/composer Mike Catalano is a jazz designer having a bent toward melodic soft jazz and a specific fascination with Brazilian music. Created in NEW YORK, Catalano studied traditional piano developing up and finally went to the Five Cities University of Music. During this time period he began composing and carrying out his personal music and created a deep like of bossa nova. A following visit to Brazil resulted in Catalano’s debut recording, A Rio Affair. Featuring both Brazilian and NY performers including drummer Steve Gadd, bassist Tag Egan, guitarist Ricardo Silveira, and bassist Nico Assumpção, the recording premiered on Polygram in Brazil. In the ’90s, Catalano branched out into tv work, actually composing all of the music for the tabloid information program A PRESENT Affair. After that, he offers performed regularly along with his personal ensemble, and released A Manhattan Affair by himself Catman Information label in 2007.
