Micky Scrima

b. Michael Scrima, c. 1915, prob. Pa, USA. While participating in Westinghouse SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL, Pittsburgh, Scrima researched music, playing timpani and xylophone within a 1934 graduating course efficiency of ‘Concerto For Piano And Percussion’. The pianist was the piece’s composer, fellow pupil Billy Strayhorn. Scrima continued to try out drums with Friend Malone’s regional dance band, that Strayhorn wrote plans. His association with Strayhorn continuing through the 10 years and Scrima indicate towards the pianist-composer’s biographer, David Hajdu, that he and guitarist Expenses Esch helped fine-tune Strayhorn’s best-known early structure, ‘Consider The “A” Teach’, before its distribution to Duke Ellington. Past due in 1939, Scrima became a member of Harry James, showing up on numerous strike information, including ‘Adobe flash’, ‘Concerto For Trumpet’, ‘The Airline flight FROM THE Bumble Bee’ and ‘The Carnival Of Venice’. He was on Frank Sinatra’s last record day with Wayne and made an appearance on display for the film Personal Buckaroo (1942). Scrima continued to be with Wayne until early 1944, producing many recordings, including many effective features for Dick Haymes and Helen Forrest. Scrima after that became a member of Charlie Barnet staying until around Might 1946. Thereafter, Scrima used various rings and seems to have handled a number of music night clubs in Dallas, Tx, in the 60s. (NB: This musician shouldn’t be confused with rock and roll drummer Michael Scrima, who worked well in the 90s with Audible Crayons and Effect.)
