Mickey Champion

Delivered in Lake Charles, LA, powerhouse blues vocalist Mickey Champion spent some time working with famous brands T-Bone Walker, Small Esther Phillips, Billie Vacation, Duke Ellington, Ray Charles, Jackie Wilson, and many more in her lengthy but unfortunately largely unsung five-decade profession. Uncovered in L.A. (where she continues to create her house in the Crenshaw Region) by bandleader and ever-vigilant skill scout Johnny Otis, Champ recorded several amazing R&B edges in the 1950s and early ’60s, non-e of which set up her as children name. The wife of bandleader Roy Milton until his loss of life, Champion began documenting once again in 2000, launching I Am Your Living Star! that year, accompanied by WHAT YOU WOULD LIKE in 2003, both on Tondef Information. She was the main topic of a video documentary made by Paul Vic and Oletha Rogers known as Champ Blues, and in 2008 Ace U.K. released her gathered singles in the 1950s and 1960s beneath the name Bam a Lam: The R&B Recordings 1950-1962.
