Miaow

Indie pop cult favorites Miaow shaped in Manchester, Britain, in 1984 — singer/guitarist Cath Carroll, a notorious habitué from the Manufacturer Records-owned club the Hacienda and a fresh Music Express writer (beneath the pseudonym Myrna Minkoff), previously collaborated with bassist Steve Maguire, keyboardist Jonathan Bedford, and drummer Chris Fenner within the Homosexual Pets. After Miaow finished their 1985 debut one, “Belle Vue” for the Venus Information label, Maguire exited and with the enhancements of brand-new bassist Ron Caine and business lead guitarist Andy Winters, Miaow documented “Sport Many Royal,” their addition for the celebrated NME C-86 compilation tape that using its uniformly jangly, willfully primitive audio virtually defined United kingdom indie pop at the center of the 10 years. Miaow — today comprising Carroll, Caine, Fenner, and keyboardist Joe Korner — following signed to Manufacturer release a the group’s innovative apex, 1987’s “When EVERYTHING BOILS DOWN.” A lively and infectious burst of pop ephemera, it had been famously protected in 1991 with the acclaimed U.S. music group Unrest, who therefore worshipped Cath Carroll that 2 yrs later they had written a tune in her honor because of their final LP, Ideal Teeth, and also featured her picture around the cover. Following a second Manufacturing plant solitary, “Break the Code,” Miaow started focus on their 1st full-length work — provisionally entitled Invaluable Innuendo, the tough demos suggest a far more digital pop-inspired strategy than past attempts, but the classes stalled as well as the group splintered before the project’s conclusion. After releasing Britain Produced Me, a single LP for Manufacturing plant, Carroll relocated to Chicago, eventually releasing several single discs for Unrest frontman Tag Robinson’s TeenBeat label. In early 2003, the LTM label released When EVERYTHING BOILS DOWN, collecting the entirety of Miaow’s documented output.
