Although not an enormous name in jazz, Melvin Sparks brought his Offer Green-influenced electric guitar to a number of soul-jazz and organ combo recordings from the later ’60s and early ’70s. A fan of jazz in addition to R&B and blues, the Houston indigenous took up your guitar at 11, and was just 13 when he sat along with B.B. Ruler. In 1963 he became a member of the Upsetters, an R&B present band that supported Small Richard, Sam Cooke, as well as other big brands. After departing the Upsetters, Sparks used Jack port McDuff in 1966-1967.
