Mellowdrone

Although Venezuelan-born, Miami-bred guitarist and lead singer of Mellowdrone, Jonathan Bates, have been playing the instrument since a kid, it wasn’t until he surely got to Berklee School of Music that he realized he was just a technically proficient guitarist, and didn’t actually know very much about music. At age group 20, along with a 12 months before graduating, Bates remaining Boston and relocated to LA to begin significantly composing and documenting his personal music. His 2003 self-released EPs, A Demo of Intellectual House and Go Obtain ‘Em Tiger, the last mentioned documented with Tony DeMatteo on electric guitar, Scott Ellis on drums, and Greg Griffith on bass, captured the eye of previous Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr, who asked Bates, beneath the name Mellowdrone, to open up for him during his upcoming tour. When Bates got finished using Marr, DeMatteo rejoined Mellowdrone, and following a frantic touring plan with bands just like the Killers, Elbow, and Magic formula Devices, the group agreed upon to 3E/Columbia in 2005. Their initial full-length album, Container, came out the next season. They spent 2006 touring to aid the disc, in the meantime placing tracks on such Television shows as Six Foot Under and Task Runway, the films The Invisible and Driv3r, and also TV advertisements, including one for Nissan. Mellowdrone parted methods with 3E/Columbia in early 2007. While planning new materials, Bates played electric guitar with M83 and Monsters Are Waiting around. Reuniting with DeMatteo and adding drummer Brian Berg in past due 2008, he established to work documenting another Mellowdrone record, Angry Bear, that was released by Arriving Home Information on August 25, 2009.
