Mauricio Smith

Mauricio Smith emerged briefly being a single star within the mid- to later ’60s following a longer association with Vincentico Valdes, the La Plata Sextet, Joe Valle, as well as the Joe Cuba Sextet. The kid of the flautist who used the Panama Symphony, he examined at Panama City’s Country wide Conservatory of Music, and became a fixture on tv and in nightclubs in South and Central America, Puerto Rico, Miami, and NY. He also made an appearance with and composed agreements for Machito, Mongo Santa Maria, and Tito Puente. Smith modified easily towards the rhythms of rock and roll & move, and made an early on attempt at cross-over between Latin jazz and rock and roll in the middle-’60s when he installed with manufacturer Joe Cain, with whom Smith trim an record — Acid solution Jazz — for the Mainstream Information label. He afterwards played and documented with Charles Mingus and Dizzy Gillespie, and with the Latin Jazz Orchestra.
