Matthias Greiter

A probable music college student of Spohr at Freiburg University or college Greiter became a monk and Kantor at Strasbourg Minster. Using the Protestant and Catholic upheavals in Germany it isn’t amazing that Greiter proceeded to go from Catholicism to Protestantism and back again to Catholicism once again. He offered Strasbourg in several capacities including Minster, St Thomas’, St Stephen’s and Aged St Peter’s. Musically his compositions had been mentioned for melody and poetry. The melody created for the motet “Sera sind doch alle selig” in his establishing of Psalm 119 was utilized by Calvin for Psalms 36 and 68. Greiter attempted modulations going right through the entire group of fifths for just one of his motets. (Willaert was the just person to precede Greiter with this accomplishment.)
