Mary Johnson

Blues vocalist Mary Johnson was created Mary Williams in Mississippi’s Yazoo Town in 1905. A decade later, she transferred with her mom to St. Louis, where she ultimately worked with lots of the area’s performers. She was wedded to bluesman Lonnie Johnson from 1925 to 1932. She also documented with bottleneck electric guitar great Tampa Crimson, with Judson Dark brown, an obscure barrelhouse pianist, and with the duo of pianist Henry Dark brown and trombonist Ike Rogers. In the 1950s, Mary Johnson discontinued the blues for religious beliefs.
