Marvin Richard “Dickie” Jones

This fiddler can be an obscure character through the heyday of Western swing, turning up on recordings by a number of different territory bands through the ’40s and ’50s, like the Blue Ridge Playboys using the young Floyd Tillman and sharing a three-way co-writing credit within the non-sensical “Jolie Blon Likes the Boogie” with non-e apart from Bob Wills himself. This isn’t the same Dick Jones who began as a kid acting professional and was the initial tone of voice of Pinocchio, but there can be an interesting overlap: that Jones specific in stunts with horses and aided Gene Autry on many a celebration; Autry have been energetic on the Traditional western swing circuit, actually employing the fiddler Dickie Jones to get a gig or three.
