Marucio Smith

Mauricio Smith emerged briefly like a single celebrity in the middle-late ’60s after an extended association with Vincentico Valdes, the La Plata Sextet, Joe Valle, as well as the Joe Cuba Sextet. The child of the flautist who used the Panama Symphony, Smith analyzed at Panama City’s Country wide Conservatory of Music, learning to be a fixture on tv and in nightclubs in South and Central America, Puerto Rico, Miami, and NY. He also made an appearance with and published plans for Machito, Mongo Santa Maria, and Tito Puente. Smith modified easily towards the rhythms of rock and roll ‘n move and made an early on attempt at cross-over between Latin jazz and rock and roll in the middle-’60s, when he installed with maker Joe Cain. Down the road, Smith slice an recording — Acidity Jazz — for the Mainstream Information label. He later on played and documented with Charles Mingus, Dizzy Gillespie as well as the Latin Jazz Orchestra.
