Marty Morell

Marty Morell had the differentiation of being an associate of the Costs Evans Trio longer than every other drummer: seven years. A calm and refined but regularly inventive participant, Morell went to the Manhattan College of Music. Ahead of signing up for Evans, Morell caused the Al Cohn-Zoot Sims Quintet (1966), Henry “Crimson” Allen (with whom he documented), Gary McFarland, Steve Kuhn and Gabor Szabo. Morell performed, documented and toured the planet with Costs Evans and Eddie Gomez from 1968-75. He resolved in Toronto after departing Evans and it has since mainly worked being a studio room percussionist, sometimes reappearing for the jazz picture and dealing with Rob McConnell’s Employer Brass from 1978-81. Up to now, Morell hasn’t led an archive time of his very own.
