Marty Marsala

Younger brother of clarinetist Joe Marsala, Marty was a good journeyman trumpeter who was simply at his best when freewheeling Dixieland-oriented settings. He began being a drummer, playing in Chicago with groupings led by Crimson Feilen and Joe Bananas. Marsala turned to trumpet in the later 1920s. Although he gigged gradually, Marsala was practically unidentified until 1936, when he shifted to NY and recorded along with his sibling. He was with Can Hudson’s Orchestra for a short while in 1937 but mainly used Joe’s music group (which also highlighted Adele Girard on harp) until 1941. Marty led his very own group at Nick’s, was with Chico Marx’s music group (1942-43), offered in the Military (1944-45) and rejoined Joe for a short while in 1945. Furthermore to using Miff Mole and Tony Parenti, Marsala going his personal combos. He relocated to SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA in the middle-’50s and gigged with Child Ory (and even more thoroughly with Earl Hines). From your past due 1950s on he was much less active because of erratic wellness, although he performed on / off until retiring in 1965. Marty documented with Joe (1937-41 and 1945), Tempo Ruler (1936-37), Bob Howard (1937), Eddie Condon, Child Ory and Earl Hines, amongst others, but never really had an opportunity to lead a program of his personal.
