Maro Ajemian

Pianist Maro Ajemian was an integral advocate of modern music in the mid-twentieth hundred years, not only like a soloist, but also inside a violin/piano duo with her sister Anahid. Both had been of Armenian ancestry and analyzed at Juilliard; Maro Ajemian offered the American premiere from the Khachaturian Piano Concerto at a Juilliard College concert in 1942. At concerning this period Ajemian began a grassroots business called the Close friends of Armenian Music, which offered an annual concert at City Hall in NEW YORK. The composer who most benefited from these concerts was Alan Hovhaness, of Armenian removal, but Ajemian also performed functions by Henry Cowell, Lou Harrison, Ernst Krenek, as well as others on these applications. Although only fairly handful of her recordings possess appeared on compact disk, Ajemian was a prolific documenting artist, documenting for CRI, Folkways, & most regularly for MGM Information’ short-lived traditional label. As well as the composers called above, Ajemian documented music of Ernest Bloch, Carlos Surinach, Carlos Chávez, Revueltas, Webern, Weill, Toch, and Gunther Schuller, and several of these had been 1st recordings. Her most well-known effort, though, was a documenting from the Sonatas and Interludes for ready piano of John Cage, a function focused on her and released on three Dial LPs in 1951. These albums helped make Cage’s status in severe musical circles and, because they had been successful, founded the marketability of modern music in the then-new LP format. This documenting was re-released on CRI in 1965 as an individual LP and was still on the net when Ajemian passed away at age group 54.
