Marko Ylönen

Marko Ylönen has performed in as much different roles seeing that almost any various other cellist from his era: soloist, orchestral participant and primary, string quartet member, freelance participant in duos and trios, and instructor. He in addition has been successful and prizewinner in main competitions along with a prolific documenting artist. And in addition, Ylönen’s repertory is certainly broad, consuming a variety of functions by C.P.E. Bach, Boccherini, Vivaldi, Haydn, Chopin, Rachmaninov, Sibelius, Piazzolla, and specifically modern Finnish composers like Einojuhani Rautavaara, Joonas Kokkonen, Jouni Kaipainen, Ralf Gothóni, Olli Mustonen, and many more. Ylönen provides concertized throughout European countries, the U.S., Australia, and New Zealand. He provides recorded for many brands, including Ondine, Finlandia, and BIS. Marko Ylönen was created in Rantasalmi, Finland, on June 11, 1966. He was students of Csaba Szilvay on the East Helsinki Music Institute and of Heikki Rautasalo and Erkki Rautio on the Helsinki-based Sibelius Academy. From 1985-1989 Ylönen got further research in Basel, Switzerland, with cello virtuoso Heinrich Schiff. 1990 was a discovery season for Ylönen: he captured second award on the Turku Scandinavian Cello Competition and was a prizewinner on the Moscow-based Tchaikovsky International Competition. That same season he started a season-long stint as primary cellist for the Tapiola Sinfonietta. Ylönen started teaching on the Sibelius Academy in 1991 and from that season until 1993, he performed using the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra as initial single cellist. Among Ylönen’s initial recordings was a 1994 Ondine Compact disc of Rautavaara’s Op. 41 Cello Concerto. From 1995-2001 Ylönen offered as cellist with the brand new Helsinki Quartet. In the mean time, he received the 1996 NY City-based Concert Designer Guild Competition. Ylönen became a tenured instructor in the Sibelius Academy in 2000 and would continue to become professor there in ’09 2009. In 2003, the occupied Ylönen appeared using the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra for the premiere of the work he previously commissioned, Jouni Kaipainen’s Cello Concerto. In 2004 Ylönen offered as artistic movie director from the Korsholm Music Event in Traditional western Finland. Ylönen was soloist around the acclaimed 2006 Ondine Compact disc from the cello concerto by Peteris Vasks, using the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra. Ylönen came back as artistic movie director from the 2008 Korsholm Music Event, then again this year 2010 and 2011. Among Ylönen’s more lucrative recordings is usually his 2010 Alba Compact disc of sonatas by Chopin and Rachmaninov, with pianist Arto Satukangas.
