Margot Fonteyn

Dame Margot Fonteyn (given birth to: Margaret Hookham) was England’s grand female of ballet. Knighted with the United kingdom Empire in 1956, Fonteyn mixed grace, specialized skill and creativity. Best remembered on her behalf portrayal of Aurora in The Sleeping Beauty, Fonteyn developed numerous function for ballets by choreographer Sir Frederick Ashton. Producing her debut in 1934 with Vic-Wells Ballet Business, afterwards renamed Sadler’s Wells Ballet Business and, after that, the Royal Ballet Business, Fonteyn continuing to dance well into her sixties. In the 1960s and ’70s, she collaborated with Russian-born dancer Rudolf Nureyev. In 1979, she received the uncommon name, “Prima Ballerina Absoluta”. Fonteyn’s abilities being a dancer had been apparent from an early on age. Beginning lessons at age four, she continued to review in London with Russian instructor and dancer Seraphima Astafieva. Although she started her association using the Vic-Wells Ballet Business being a chorus dancer, she assumed jobs previously danced by Alicia Markova within a season. By 1940, she was recognized being a prima ballerina. In 1954, Fonteyn became leader from the Royal Academy of Dance.
