Margaret Allison

The co-founder and lead vocalist from the legendary Angelic Gospel Performers, Margaret Allison was created and raised in Philadelphia, where she first surfaced as an associate of the chorus named the Religious Echoes. Inspired from the events of the dream, she shaped the Angelics in 1944 with her sister Josephine McDowell and fellow Echoes Ella Mae Morris and Lucille Shird; after playing to receptive viewers within the Philadelphia region, the group performed in Shird’s hometown of to Asheville, NC, accompanied by an similarly well-received appearance in Morris’ indigenous Greenville, SC. Emboldened by their achievement, the Angelics started touring increasingly more thoroughly, and in 1947 these were authorized to Gotham Information; their debut sole “Touch Me Lord Jesus” continues to be a gospel traditional. When confronted with numerous lineup adjustments through the entire years which adopted, Allison continued to be the core of the group, steering them through following tenures around the Nashboro and Malaco brands; in 1994, the Angelics celebrated their fantastic anniversary.
