Manuel Bandeira

Famous Brazilian poet. Jaime Ovalle composed songs for just two of Bandeira’s poems that became all-time classics: the modinhas “Azulão” and “Modinha.” Ary Barroso place the music, a fado, in his “Portugal, Meu Avozinho,” however the tune was never documented. A few of his poems acquired music with the erudite composers Heitor Villa-Lobos, Francisco Mignone, and Camargo Guarnieri. He released the initial poetry reserve in 1917, A Cinza Das Horas, that was the precursor from the Brazilian modernism. Carnaval (1919), verified his pioneering personality.
