Mantas

Mantas was the music group formed by erstwhile Venom guitarist Jeff Dunn (aka Mantas, naturally) following his acrimonious departure through the group, and their glossy, synthesizer-driven hard rock and roll audio was indeed a long way off through the legendarily crude dark metal pioneers. Not really that the second option at all translated into improved record sales, because the group’s 1988 debut recording — aptly called Winds of Modification, and actually documented four years previously — premiered from the promotionally challenged Nice Records. Rather, both recording and 1989’s somewhat more intense Deceiver EP had been total busts with older fans and potential new ones as well, proving you could rarely teach a vintage dog new techniques — rather than mess with enthusiasts’ objectives. Mantas the music group (which, incidentally, was curved out by vocalist Pete Harrison, second guitarist Al Barnes, keyboardist Keith Nichol, along with a drum machine!!!) disintegrated before viewing the 1990s, but a fresh lineup featuring previous Atomkraft and Venom bassist/vocalist Tony Dolan was briefly convened to record 2004’s No Tolerance LP.
