Mallard was a short-lived ’70s experimental rock-band featuring several past users of Captain Beefheart’s Magic Music group: guitarist Expenses Harkleroad (aka Zoot Horn Rollo), bassist Tag Boston (aka Rockette Morton), and percussionist/drummer Artwork Tripp (aka Ed Marimba), the second option which also played in Frank Zappa’s Moms of Invention for a number of albums, aswell. Both Harkleroad and Boston have been members from the Magic Music group from 1968 through 1974, whenever a falling out in clumps between them and Beefheart (over their unhappiness using the recording Unconditionally Assured), resulted in their leave.
