Magnolias

Biography

A scruffy Minneapolis punk-pop music group with all the current melodies of the Twin Metropolitan areas forebears (Hüsker Dü, the Substitutes, Spirit Asylum), the Magnolias formed around vocalist and guitarist John Freeman, who became the only regular within the band’s profession. Documenting for Twin/Build, the group caused Hüsker Dü’s Offer Hart because of their loud 1986 debut, Cement Pillbox. Afterwards albums For Lease and Dime Shop Dream demonstrated the Magnolias toning down the chaos and leaning nearer to the pop aspect of punk, leading to 1992’s From the Hook, their initial record for Alias. Following the release of the EP that same season, the Magnolias had been silent until 1996, when Freeman and another batch of backers came back with Street Time Tuesday.
