Mae Johnson

b. c. 1915, USA. Johnson was a reasonably well known vocalist in the past due 30s and she also made an appearance in an performing part in the all-black battle melodrama, Maintain Punching (1939), that was aimed by John Clein and starred boxer Archie Moore. Also presented in the film had been Alvin Childress, Francine Everett, Canada Lee and pianist-singer Dooley Wilson. Far better known may be the all-black film musical, Stormy Weather (1943), where Johnson made an appearance with Lena Horne, Expenses ‘Bojangles’ Robinson and Excess fat Waller.
