Mae Barnes

Mae Barnes was a singer whose simple but swinging strategy fell between jazz and middle-of-the-road pop music. At age 12, she began functioning as both a vocalist and a touch dancer. Barnes made an appearance in such displays as Running Crazy, Shuffle Along, and By the stunning Sea furthermore to performing within the Ziegfeld Follies. A vehicle accident in the past due ’30s unfortunately generally ended her dance profession, but she could concentrate on her performing. For the seven-year period, Barnes sang frequently at Boite (a Greenwich Community membership) before shifting to Recreation area Avenue as well as the Blue Angel. She proved helpful in Britain in Jack port Hylton’s revue The Knights of Madness, made an appearance regularly on tv and in The Kitty Foyle Present; in the 1950s, she often starred at Bon Soir in Greenwich Community. Barnes documented an record apiece for Atlantic (1953) and Vanguard (1958), plus an unreleased live time for Atlantic in 1960. The Vanguard established finds her became a member of by way of a mainstream quartet which includes trumpeter Buck Clayton and it has been reissued on Compact disc by DRG/Golf swing.
