Mac Benford

The string band and bluegrass tradition is used the enthusiasm of contemporary music by clawhammer banjo player Macintosh Benford. A founding person in the Highwoods Stringband, Benford performed a key function within the old-time revival from the 1970s. Along with his most recent group, the Woodshed All Superstars, he’s continuing to breathe new lease of life into a vintage musical genre. Although Benford was drawn to the American folk music from the past due 1950s, he quickly became consumed with the noises of traditional Appalachian fiddle and banjo music. Shortly after shifting to Ithaca, NY, in 1972, he helped to create the Highwoods Stringband. Through the six years they performed together, the music group documented three albums — Fireplace on the Hill, Dance FOREVER and NUMBER 3 Unique — and experienced a profound impact on the development of contemporary bluegrass. Even though three albums are no more on the net, Rounder released an anthology, Give food to Your Infants Onions: Fat Town Favorites, in 1994. Benford primarily constructed the Woodshed All-Stars in 1990, to record a record to celebrate his fiftieth birthday. As the music group showcased the north Georgia twin fiddle audio of Pete Sutherland and John Kirk, the group also spotlighted the vocals and first tracks of Marie Melts away from the Melts away Sisters. The program, released on cassette by Marimac, demonstrated so successful that this group became a far more long term ensemble. Their second recording, Willow, premiered by Rounder in 1996. Benford in addition has performed using the Backwoods Music group, the Uncles as well as the Mac Benford Aged Time Music group.
