Mabel Mercer

Well known and honored by her peers, cabaret singer Mabel Mercer was among the most powerful song interpreters in traditional pop, a big influence about singers including Frank Sinatra and Nat Ruler Cole, and a prepared rediscoverer of once-forgotten nuggets like “Travel Me towards the Moon.” Given birth to in Staffordshire, Britain, Mercer was the kid of American jazz vocalist Warren Mercer, Sr. (who passed away before Mabel’s delivery), and English music hall celebrity Gertrude Doak.
