Lythion

Lead singer/manufacturer Ilyana Kadushkin and musician/manufacturer Adam Harrell (who has electric guitar, bass and drums in addition to acoustic piano and electrical keyboards) comprise Lythion, an experimental, unorthodox, risk-taking duo that’s based in NEW YORK. Lythion’s far-reaching materials hasn’t been an easy task to classify, but if one needed to pin them down stylistically, the most likely description may possibly be substitute pop/rock and roll or art rock and roll that incorporates spirit and funk furthermore to cabaret and jazz. Being a duo, Kadushkin and Harrell provide an intriguing selection of immediate or indirect affects (some from america, some from THE UK) towards the their function, and those affects range between Kate Bush, Tori Amos, David Bowie and Brian Eno to Aretha Franklin. It could be hard to assume a group effectively bringing all those affects jointly — stylistically, Bush along with a veteran R&B vocalist like Franklin are worlds aside — but Lythion provides managed to draw it off. For Lythion, suffering from art rock in addition to soul as well as the blues isn’t a contradiction; for Kadushkin and Harrell, getting artsy, theatrical, along with a little bit eccentric doesn’t suggest sacrificing a feeling of soulful, bluesy, R&B-influenced grit. Obviously, Lythion knows how exactly to stability style and element. Neither Kadushkin nor Harrell are indigenous New Yorkers; Kadushkin was created in Miami and elevated in Maryland, while Harrell can be originally from NORTH PARK, CA. Both of these moved to the brand new York City region to pursue professions within the arts. Kadushkin (who began monitoring the piano at age nine) was set on performance artwork — Diamanda Galas, the provocative, questionable Karen Finley and previous Teenage Jesus & the Jerks vocalist Lydia Lunchtime are one particular she admires — and she went to the Tisch College of Artwork (where she won an honor for superiority in 1993 on her behalf involvement in Tisch’s experimental theatre system). Harrell, in the mean time, relocated to NYC in 1991 and spent a while within an obscure, little-known option pop/rock and roll/power pop music group known as Spider Jones (who cited Elvis Costello as well as the Jam as a few of their main affects). Harrell got a lucky break when, in the past due ’90s when vocalist Krztoff asked him to try out keyboards for his commercial/techno group Bile; Harrell finished up heading on a nationwide tour with Krztoff’s music group. Although Kadushkin and Harrell both found its way to ny in the first ’90s, they didn’t fulfill each other until 1999. Artistically, each of them strike it off immediately, and it didn’t consider them long to create Lythion and be songwriting partners. Actually, Kadushkin and Harrell had written the tune “Champagne” just a few hours once they met. …Right from the start, Lythion’s debut album, premiered independently independently label, Lythionmusic in 2004.
