Luther Campbell

Biography

The entrepreneur behind 2 Live Crew, owner of Luke Records, and former concert promoter Luther Campbell was at once arguably the country’s most controversial hip-hop figure. Campbell created the Miami-based quartet in 1987 plus they had been the centerpiece of the national marketing campaign against allegedly obscene lyrics. He was embroiled inside a volatile trial pitting him against then-Florida lawyer general Jack port Thompson. Campbell later on became a single designer, issuing his personal discs as Luke Featuring 2 Live Team. He released Prohibited within the U.S.A., a parody of Bruce Springsteen’s “Given birth to within the U.S.A.,” and I’ve Got Shit on My Brain. Campbell also released an autobiography and revamped 2 Live Team, adding some new members. They released Back at the Ass for the Nine-4, which peaked at quantity nine within the R&B graph in 1994. Campbell also gained a Supreme Courtroom decision that ruled that his parody of Roy Orbison’s “Oh, Pretty Girl” didn’t violate the copyright kept by Acuff Rose. Campbell released the profession of R&B vocalists H-Town, issuing their debut LP on Luke Details.
