An excellent bop-based pianist who spent some time working with a many top jazz artists, Lou Levy started about piano when he was 12. He used Georgie Auld (1947), Sarah Vaughan, Chubby Jackson (1947-1948), Boyd Raeburn, Woody Herman’s Second Herd (1949-1950), Tommy Dorsey (1950), Auld once again, and Turn Phillips. Levy was beyond music for a couple years (1952-1954) and gained a solid reputation as an excellent accompanist to performers, dealing with Peggy Lee (on / off during 1955-1973), Ella Fitzgerald (1957-1962), June Christy, Anita O’Day, and Pinky Winters. Levy also used Shorty Rogers, Stan Getz, Terry Gibbs, Benny Goodman, Supersax, & most of the main West Coastline players.
