Lou Black

This banjoist was created and died within a Midwest town called Rock Island, but being a musician he strictly inhabited jazz territory. He started flailing in the banjo as a kid, with 16 was playing appropriately with Rock and roll Island’s most swinging combos. Pianist Carlisle Evans fronted a riverboat music group, which symbolized the youthful banjoist’s first street trip in 1919, though it was a river rather than a highway that transported the S.S. Capitol along. Early in the ’20s, Dark joined up with up with the brand new Orleans Tempo Kings group on the Friars’ Inn place in Chicago. He remained with this clothing for quite some time, joining the initial Memphis Melody Guys in 1923 to get a wee stint before time for the work of previously bandleader Evans. In 1963 he amazed Dixeland jazz followers by sitting along with numerous groups around NEW YORK. Later that 12 months, the banjoist started playing gigs around the region of Moline, IL. In past due 1965 he was hurt in an automobile crash, then passed away from a coronary attack while still recuperating in a healthcare facility.
