Describing his method of music as “a small amount of a fight,” producer/DJ J’Kerian Morgan makes fractured yet moving music as Lotic. Created and elevated in Houston, Tx, he shifted to Austin to review electronic music structure at the College or university of Tx. While there, Morgan immersed himself in DJ’ing for his university radio station with clubs, linking with Ben Aqua of the web dance music label #Emotions, which released Lotic’s debut EP, A LOT MORE THAN Close friends, in 2011. The next year, Morgan shifted to Berlin to discover more like-minded performers; in the meantime, his music fascinated the attention from the Sci Fi & Dream label, who released the Sankofa/Glittering solitary early in January 2013 as well as the more technical, melodic Fallout EP that Oct. He also became a member of the Janus Collective, a team of American expatriates including fellow maker/DJ M.E.S.H., and became among the DJs at their regular monthly celebrations at Chesters, a golf club in Kreuzberg. Early in 2014, a negative separation and fewer but even more ambitious Janus occasions gave Morgan additional time to spotlight Lotic, and he crafted the Damsel in Stress mixtape — which juxtaposed his personal dense, wrenching paths with an otherworldly reworking of Beyoncé’s “Drunk in Like” among additional tracks — in fourteen days. He expanded among the mixtape’s paths, “Heterocetera,” into his 2015 debut EP for Tri Position. An electronic EP entitled Agitations premiered by Janus toward the finish of the entire year.
