Los Abandoned

Los Abandoned formed in 2002 following break up of two other LA bands. Vocalist, songwriter, and guitarist Female P and business lead guitarist Don Verde acquired each dropped a gig in another of those groupings, and produced a musical camaraderie and shared consolation culture. They started producing demonstration tapes in the Verdes’ cellar, before getting bassist Vira Lata and drummer Dulce up to speed to create what would become Los Discontinued. Lady P resolved on ukulele as her primary device, and both she and Verde also started using Casio key pad sounds to provide the music group its personal sound: a odd fusion of 1980s proto-electronica, bubblegum pop, brand-new influx, and Latin rock and roll. Their lyrics veer unpredictably backwards and forwards between British and Spanish (occasionally within the span of a single expression), and their mixture of gritty guitars, pop hooks, and strangely vintage sound arrived at just the proper period. The group released two EPs alone (demotape in 2002, accompanied by self-titled EP in 2004) before getting picked up with the Sanctuary label in 2006. Their initial album, Combine Tape, premiered that calendar year — initial within an online-only model (offering two bonus monitors) and as a typical CD release.
