Lloyd Trotman

b. 25 Might 1923, Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Lloyd and elder sibling Ernie discovered music at college and continued to more complex research at both New Britain Conservatory and their dad’s personal Music Enthusiasts’ College of Music. Lloyd performed the dual bass and, influenced by Slam Stewart and Jimmy Blanton, started touring having a jazz music group in 1941. He continued to try out with Blanche Calloway, Billie Vacation, Stuff Smith, Eddie Heywood, Hazel Scott, Duke Ellington, Pete Dark brown and other performers. His most well-known period was as bass participant using the Johnny Hodges – Al Sears breakaway group from the first 50s on such recordings as ‘Castle Rock and roll.’ He subsequently joined up with Alan Freed’s Rock ‘n’ Move Orchestra. In the 40s and 50s, Trotman was a favorite program musician, his bass developing the dance basis for most jazz and R&B classes from Viola Watkins, Cousin Joe and Champ Jack port Dupree to Lucky Millinder, Mickey And Sylvia, Ray Charles and Ben E. Ruler (he takes on the unique bass on ‘Stand By Me’). He produced some quartet recordings with Oscar Pettiford (who called Lloyd as his preferred bass participant) in 1950 for Mercer Information and had several singles released under his personal name on Tuxedo and Brunswick Information. Today he lives on Long Isle, NY, but offers retired from your music business.
