Australian alt-rock device Small Birdy shaped in Perth in 2002. Vocalist/guitarist Katy Steele (sister from the Sleepy Jackson’s Luke Steele) produced the group after exiting her prior combo, the Plastik Picture, recruiting her brother’s longtime friend Simon Leach to try out drums. Following addition of bassist Scott O’Donoghue, Leach transferred to electric guitar, and by adding drummer Matt Chequer, the lineup was set up.
