Linda Clifford

Brooklyn vocalist Linda Clifford parlayed a jazz history, booming tone of voice, and sassy way into disco and R&B/metropolitan contemporary stardom within the ’70s and ’80s. A previous Miss NY Condition, she sang using the Jerico Jazz Performers and led her very own trio within the ’60s before switching to R&B and pop. She produced a little sound on Paramount, after that agreed upon with Curtis Mayfield’s Curtom label. Clifford got her initial strike in 1978 with “Runaway Like,” a tune that peaked at number 3 for the R&B graphs.
