Lily May Ledford

Among the many abilities discovered and nurtured by Chicago DJ John Lair, Lily Might Ledford was an excellent banjo participant and fiddler who all led a favorite all-girl group called the Coon Creek Young ladies. Ledford was uncovered when she ventured from her rural Kentucky house to Chicago for the talent competition and was provided a spot in the Country wide Barn Dance plan that Lair oversaw. The DJ inspired her to stick to the mountain girl regular and eschew all trappings of style such as make-up or quite dresses. Ledford became a rough-hewn backwoods sort of female fronting the Coon Creek Young ladies, a group produced by Lair when he transferred to Kentucky to create a different country music radio present there. The group included Ledford’s sister on electric guitar aswell as Esther Koehler on mandolin and Evelyn Lange on bass. These were an immediate feeling and continued executing in the Appalachian region for another 2 decades.
