Lewis “Big Sweet” Hairston

Lewis “Big Lovely” Hairston was created in 1929 in McDowell Region, WV, but lived the majority of his existence in Henry Region, VA, near Martinville. He began playing banjo when he was around 11 years of age, creating a clawhammer design that shows only a hint of bluegrass impact.
