Les Baxter

Les Baxter is really a pianist who composed and arranged for the very best swing bands from the ’40s and ’50s, but he’s better referred to as the creator of exotica, a variance of easy hearing that glorified the noises and varieties of Polynesia, Africa, and SOUTH USA, even while it retained the original string-and-horn agreements of instrumental pop. As he was documenting his exotica albums, Baxter was also the musical movie director for the air display Halls of Ivy, plus Abbott & Costello radio displays; he also made up over 100 film ratings, focusing on horror films and teenage musicals and comedies, though he also do dramas like Large. Baxter’s heyday is at the ’50s and ’60s. Although he continuing to compose and record within the ’70s, his result was sporadic. However, a cult pursuing created around his exotica recordings that persisted in to the ’90s.
