Leon Huff

Program pianist Leon Huff became half a seminal R&B songwriting and creation group when he teamed with Kenny Gamble in 1965. Huff performed on periods for Phil Spector, the Ronettes, and Carole Ruler in NEW YORK before shifting to Philadelphia. He produced the Locomotions, and do periods for Cameo and Swan. Huff performed over the melody “The 81,” that was co-written by Kenny Gamble, who was simply at the program seeing the melody being documented by Chocolate & the Kisses. Huff gained his first strike being a composer composing “Mixed-Up Shook-Up Young lady” for Patty & the Emblems in 1964. He became a member of the Romeos another year, after that teamed with Gamble to create Gamble Information. They consequently co-wrote and co-produced tracks for the Soul Survivors, the O’Jays, while others before developing Philadelphia International Information in the first ’70s. Their usage of strings, the advanced yet soulful audio, and careful mixture of socially mindful and romantic music provided strikes for the O’Jays, Harold Melvin & the Blue Records, Teddy Pendergrass, MFSB, the Intruders, while others. Huff also had written hits by himself for the Ebonys, People’s Choice, Carolyn Crawford, and Bunny Sigler. He released two singles like a single designer on Philadelphia International in 1980 and 1981, with “I Ain’t Jivin’, I’m Jammin” obtaining some moderate reputation. A mystery continues to be as to the reasons the label collapsed in the ’80s.
