Lemuel Jones

Lemuel Jones is well known for just two field recordings he did for John Lomax in the condition penitentiary in Richmond, VA, on, may 31, 1936. Jones do unaccompanied vocal variations of the Depression-era protest track known as “Po’ Farmers (Poor Farmers)” along with a blues entitled “Tremble It, Mama,” and in addition sang within a unison vocal group behind fellow inmate Wayne Wilson on the call-and-response work track known as “Can’t You Collection ‘Em,” which Lomax documented the same day time.
