Lem Davis

Along with his distinctive tone, Lem Davis (created Lemuel A. Davis) was among the busiest alto saxophone players through the little jazz combo period from the 1940s and ’50s. Furthermore to using rings led by Coleman Hawkins, Rex Stewart, and Eddie Heywood, Davis led his personal band offering Emmett Berry on trumpet, Vic Dickerson on trombone, and Dodo Marmarosa on piano. After documenting with jazz vocalist Billie Vacation as an associate of Heywood’s music group in 1944, Davis continued to record with John Kirby, Joe Thomas, and Eddie Safranski. Although he reached his apex in the 1940s, Davis continuing to execute in the brand new York area through the 1950s. He made an appearance on an recording recorded throughout a jam program with important trumpet participant Buck Clayton. Struggling to make the changeover from golf swing to bebop, Davis faded into obscurity.
