Laze & Royal

The sons of latter-day Platters member Elmer Armstrong, twin brothers Bennett Armstrong (Laze) and Justyn Armstrong (Royal) certainly are a self-contained songwriting and production duo who, as grade schoolers, caught the interest of producer Christopher “Tricky” Stewart. As 2XL, they documented 2007’s Community Rapstar, an record released on Tommy Boy that highlighted some production the help of Scott Storch and a set of guest performances from E-40. Reinventing themselves as Laze & Royal, they afterwards secured a cope with Warner Bros. with a rock and roll/reggae/pop-rap hybrid one titled “Such as a Pistol,” which Warner released the next season. They toured the U.S. with Shwayze that fall.
