Lawrence Lucie

Mainly a nonsoloing rhythm guitarist throughout his career, Lawrence Lucie was in many important recording sessions and had an extended playing career. As a kid he discovered banjo, mandolin and violin, using a family music group at dances. After shifting to NY, he examined banjo on the Brooklyn Conservatory but instantly became a guitarist when he began playing skillfully. Lucie performed using the orchestras of Duke Ellington (briefly in 1932), Benny Carter (1932-34), Fletcher Henderson (1934), the Mills Blue Tempo Band (1934-36), back again with Henderson (1936-39), Coleman Hawkins (1940) and Louis Armstrong (1940-44). Furthermore to recording challenging above (except Ellington), Lucie was on record schedules with Teddy Wilson & Billie Vacation, Spike Hughes, Putney Dandridge, Big Joe Turner, Crimson Allen and Jelly Move Morton. With the finish from the big music group era, Lucie frequently worked inside a quartet along with his wife guitarist-singer Nora Lee Ruler. He also gigged with Luis Russell, Louie Bellson (1959) and Cozy Cole in the 1950’s and became a occupied studio musician. By himself Plaything label, Lawrence Lucie documented some so-so easy-listening Lp’s through the 1970’s/80’s that frequently presented his wife.
