A fantastic accompanist along with a thoughtful soloist, Larry Ridley has appeared on the many sessions being a sideman. He examined at Indiana School as well as the Lenox College of Jazz. After gigging in his hometown with Freddie Hubbard, Wayne Spaulding, and Wes Montgomery, Ridley relocated to NY, where he continues to be active since. Among his even more significant musical organizations in the 1960s had been with Slip Hampton, Maximum Roach, Crimson Garland, Artwork Farmer, Jackie McLean, Sonny Rollins, Horace Metallic, Lee Morgan, and George Wein’s Newport All-Stars (1969). Thelonious Monk’s regular bassist during 1970-1973, Ridley became involved with jazz education, going the jazz system and music division at Rutgers. He caused Philly Joe Jones’ Dameronia (1981-1985) and it has been active until the present period. Larry Ridley just recorded sparingly like a innovator (including an obscure Strata East LP in 1975), but he is a useful sideman on many times.
